Course description: This course is an introduction on how to solve ordinary differential equations. Topics include first order differential equations, linear differential equations with constant coefficients, Laplace transforms, and systems of linear differential equations. Examples involving the use of differential equations in mechanical and other systems will also be discussed.

Textbook: Edwards, Penny, Calvis, Differential Equations - Computing and Modelling (5th edition), Pearson.
Note: Earlier editions can also be used for reference. Students will be expected to consult the relevant chapters of the textbook based on the topics covered in class.

Quizzes: There are 5 quizzes, of which the best 4 are counted. A list of topics for each quiz can be found under Quiz topics. The quizzes are written during the tutorial hours, and the precise schedule is as follows.

Quiz 4: 11 November (Week 10)
Quiz 5: 25 November (Week 12)

Tutorials: Mondays 8:30-9:30. (No tutorial on 9 Sep.)

Homework: Problem sets will be assigned every week and posted under List of Assignments. These will not be marked, but you are strongly encouraged to try these on your own before the solutions are posted the week after. These will also help you prepare for the quizzes.
