Course Information

  • This course can be neatly split into two parts.
  • The first part covers an introduction to probability and statistics. We will begin by discussing the connection between probability and statistics, and why it's important to have a good understanding of probability in order to understand statistics. This section of the course will focus on developing a good understanding of discrete and continuous probability. We will end this section by applying our understanding of probability to conduct a formal hypothesis test.
  • The second part of the course is an introduction to differential equations. Differential equations are equations that relate changes in a quantity to the quantity itself. These equations are the foundation of modern physics, and are used in almost every aspect of engineering. We will discuss applications of differential equations to wastewater treatment processes and beam physics. The main takeaway from this section should be how to find numerical approximations to differential equations when analytical solutions are difficult or impossible to find.
